A great outing for kids and adults alike! The warm Indian Ocean and the cold Atlantic Ocean meet not only at the most southern point of South Africa, but also here, at the Two Oceans Aquarium. Visitors get an insight in the unique marine life along the coasts of South Africa.
Big sharks from two oceans!
To no surprise, the big sharks are the most popular. The spectacular I&J Predator Exhibit draws the most oohh’s and aahh’s. And fair is fair this enormous two million littler basin with ragged-tooth sharks, a loggerhead turtle, a green sea turtle, rays and other predatory fish from South Africa’s south coast is thrilling! Through the 11 meter wide and 4 meter high acrylic panel you can see the shark feeding every Sunday at 15.00 hours. If you’ve got your scuba license, you can even dive in this awesome tank!!!
Explore the aquarium
But the predators are just one of many great exhibitions. The aquarium houses more than 3000 marine creatures like penguins, the rare Knysna seahorse, translucent jellyfish and the giant spider crab. The touch pool is popular with the little ones. Here you may touch and pick up some animals and plants and look through a microscope to discover life that cannot be seen with the naked eye. The gigantic kelp forest is impressive and enchanting at the same time, with its silver fishes swimming shimmering through it. The Indian Oceans coral reefs are a kaleidoscope of brightly colored fish, where Finding Nemo-lovers will have a field day spotting Nemo and his friends. With exhibitions like Oceans of Contrast – the Atlantic Ocean and Indian Ocean Gallery, the enchanting kelp forest, the Sappi River Meander with the colony of penguins and the touch pool this is a great outing for everyone! Not just to seek shelter from the heat for an hour or two, but because the aquarium is a highlight in its own right.
It is exciting and educational, encouraging us to take care of our world.
