Whale watching in the Western Cape

Whale watching

South Africa is one of the best destinations in the world to encounter southern right and humpback whales. The best time is June until November. For 5 months a year, the bays of the Western Cape are the southern right’s breeding ground.  From land you have ample opportunity to watch them from the road along the False Bay coast. Hermanus, on the Cape south coast is the best place in the world to spot whales from land. They even have a Whale Crier who lets visitors and locals know a whale has been sighted and where the animals have come into the old harbor to calve. It is a magnificent sight as you stroll along the water. Or just sit on one of the benches with a cup of coffee staring at the water. The sight of breaching whales is one you will never forget!

In September the town organizes a whale-watching festival.

It is even possible to see watch these incredible creatures from the air!
